Boat owners asked to obey harbour rules

Lyttelton Harbour Board traffic officers and harbour wardens are gearing themselves up for the boating season, due to officially start next month. The Harbour Board’s traffic manager, Mr David Jones, has asked that boat owners be considerate and obey traffic regulations when using board roads.

i Already two trailers and a large pleasure craft have been impounded for allegedly flouting board traffic rules. Those ;who broke the rules would be prosecuted if necessary to ensure that all boat owners had access to the harbour, he said. “Officers will step up the watch near the Naval Point slipway to ensure that all boat owners have adequate access to slipway facilities,” Mr Jones said. Signs in the area inform motorists where they can park. This year more parks wili be available near the slipway as a result of extension work during the winter. Mr Jones said harbour wardens would also keep a watch on water skiers to ensure that they used the proper ski lanes in the harbour.
