Minister to open centre for blind
The Minister of Education, Mr Wellington, will open an activity centre on today for the Christchurch branch of the Royal New Zealand Foundation for the Blind.
The $250,000 new building in Bristol Street will house a wide range of activities including handicrafts, card games, music, chess, cooking, and gardening. The manager of the Christchurch branch, Mr C. Fisk, said the single-storey building would cater for both young and old and completes another aspect of the range of activities provided by the Christchurch branch.
Money for the construction of the activities centre was gleaned from several legacies over a number of years, Mr Fisk said. The project has taken about 2% years from conception to completion.
