Conditions of South Island ski fields, as reported by the New Zealand snow centre at midday yesterday are.— Mt Huth Base 105 cm; last fall 7cm on September 14; chains to be carried, heli skiing available. Lake Ohau: Base 85cm; last fall 20cm September 21; main runs groomed; chains required. Tekapo: Last fall 20cm September 21; open week-ends
only. Dobsen: Base 100 cm; last fall September 13; packed powder slopes. Treble Cone: Base 100 cm; last fall Bcm September 21;
fresh powder on firm base; excellent ski-ing; chains to be carried.
Porter Heights: Base 60cm; last fall 3cm September 14; wind-packed powder on all slopes; chains required. Harris Mountains: Base 130 cm; last fall 12cm September 21; powder surface snow. Cardrona: Last fall 12cm September 21; fresh snow on groomed slopes; chains required. Coronet Peak: Base 86cm; last fall 6cm September 21; wind-blown powder snow; chains to be carried. Ben Ohau: Base 300 cm; last
fall 40cm September 21; helicopter operating; runs suitable intermediate, advanced and expert skiers. Mt Cheesman: Last fall 20cm September 21; fresh snow; chains required. Broken Riven Last fall 20cm September 21; fresh snow; chains required. Temple Basin: Open subject to clearance of excess snow.
Craigiebum: Last fall 3cm September 21; good ski-ing; chains to be carried.
Mt Olympus: Base 175 cm; last fall 12cm September 21; fresh snow; chains to be carried.
