Four Avenues

Sir, — Your editorial of August 29 “A Future for Four Avenues” has me smarting still. You have labelled and libelled the pupils as disruptive, with special problems of learning, attitudes and behaviour. This generalisation is untrue and unfair. My daughter, a firstyear pupil at the school, finished her primary education with a lilywhite record academically and socially. The decision for her to attend Four Avenues was made after considering private, integrated and State secondary schools. It was a good decision. After only eight months my daughter has blossomed and flourished. Your comments nearly echo those of the Minister of Education. He used such terms on local radio the day his decision to close the school was announced. It will be difficult for. all school-leavers to find jobs next year, but because of the Minister’s cruel classification, Four Avenues’ students will have to try much harder. — Yours, etc.,

E. R. STRONG. September 9, 1983.
