Celebration ends
PA Wellington The Bible Society’s celebration of 600 years of the Bible in English ended on Saturday when Wellington’s Mayor, Sir Michael Fowler, received a facsimile of part of the first English translation. The Good News Run began on August 20 when groups of people left Cape Reinga and Stewart Island carrying batons which were passed in relay on throughout New Zealand. The run
ended when the batons were Bresented8 resented to Sir Michael at Wellington Airport on Saturday. The ceremony at the airport took the form of a reenactment of the first two Bibles being airmailed to New Zealand by'Sir Charles Kingsford-Smith from Sydney in 1928. Hundreds of people took part in the run that also raised money for a new Pidgin Bible for Papua New Guinea.
