Maori leaders want exam, to stay same
PA Wellington Maori education leaders have objected to post-prim-ary teachers’ attempts to move the University Entrance examination from Form 6 to Form 7. The National Advisory Committee on Maori Education has told the Minister of Education, Mr Wellington, that they do not want the system altered. The committee’s chairman, Mr Jim Ross, said that {
they did not want the standard of entry to university raised because they were concerned about the impact it might have on the Maori community. Mr Wellington does not support moving the University Entrance examination from Form 6. But teachers have warned him that they will not set or mark University Entrance examination papers this year, as part of their campaign to move it. J j
