Man convicted of $70,090 stamp theft

PA Dunedin A young man appeared in the District Court at Dunedin after the theft of three private stamp collections, together worth more than $70,000. Facing three charges of burglary before Judge Jamieson was Timothy Mark Rackley, aged 25, unemployed, of Dunedin. After pleading guilty to all three charges he was convicted and remanded for a report and sentence on September 15. Bail of $750 was allowed, with two sureties of $750 and Rackley was ordered to

report to the police twice a week. All the stamps were recovered undamaged. Rackley told the police that he had stored the collections in the basement of a Dunedin address where he catalogued the stamps, believing them to be worth about $lBO,OOO. When he was unable to arrange a buyer, he took them to the address of an associate. A co-offender was believed to have been involved in the burglaries but he had not yet been found, the Court was told.
