Steve Scott wins Fifth Avenue run

NZPA-Reuter New York The American, Steve Scott, on Saturday beat 12 other men, including John Walker, in a mile race down Manhattan’s Fifth Avenue. Dianne Rogers of New Zealand was fifth in a women’s mile which was won by Briton Wendy Sly. Ten women took part. Scott beat fellow Americans Ross Donoghue and Sydney Maree in three minutes 49.77 seconds. Donoghue clocked in at 3:50.10, and Maree was third in

3:50.72. Walker finished fifth with a time of 3:51.58, behind another American, Jim Spivey, 3:51.31. Sly, who finished fifth in the 1500 and 3000 metres events at the world track and field championships in Helsinki last month, held off Canada’s Brit Mcßoberts to win in 4:22.66. Mcßoberts ran the mile in 4:23.86. Britain’s Christine Boxer was third with 4:24.49, followed by Maggie Keyes (U.S.) in 4:28.58 and Rogers in 4:34.50.
