Poultry Board

Sir,—Mr Kidd, M.P., in his remarks on the Poultry Board, may have the right principle, but certainly gives the wrong reasons in support of his argument. Mr Kidd and his caucus colleagues need only look as far as the constitution of the National Party to see the principle

of individual, free, private, competitive enterprise. Despite this principle, his Government has approved a wide range of regulations which severely limit the freedom of New Zealanders. The entitlement scheme may have outlived its usefulness, and the time has now come to return to a condition determined by a free market. If this applies to the Poultry Board, may it also be accompanied by a move towards balancing the Budget, State pay rates in line with the private sector, removal of export subsidies and agricultural subsidies, and genuine action to uphold the principles on which the Government sought a mandate from the people. — Yours, etc.,

P. FRAEMOHS. August 31, 1983.
