Liquor store licenced
Wilson Neill’s liquor outlet in Cranford Street will open for business today, a week after it opened for only three hours before being closed by the police for not having a licence. The big store has been closed since while lawyers acting for the company have cleared up the technicalities which delayed the issue of the licence last week in time for the.inuch-
publicised opening. Mr Kingsley Wood, the Christchurch regional manager for Wilson Neill, said yesterday that the wholesale liquor licence was one which the company had transferred from Bishop and Company in Armagh Street. Only at considerable effort had the licence transfer finally been approved in time for today’s opening, he
said. Members of the public had been calling at the Cranford Street site in “incredible” numbers in the last week, in spite of signs saying that the store was closed. Mr Wood said that the company could only apologise for any inconvenience suffered by the public. Last Thursday’s opening specials will 4pply again today.
