PA Wellington Seven petitions protesting against the Government’s proposed transport delicensing law, claiming it would destroy the Railways freight workings, were presented when Parliament sat at 2.30 p.m. yesterday. The petitions were tabled by: The Opposition’s Deputy. Leader, Mr Palmer, on behalf of Mary Gray, of Christchurch, and 233 others; Mr M. K. Moore (Lab., Papanui), on behalf of Mr R. Pike, of Christchurch, and 243 others; Mrs M. A. Hercus (Lab., Lyttelton), on behalf of A. R. Chivers, of Christchurch, and 115 others; Mr T. K. Burke (Lab., West Coast), on behalf of Desmond John Skates, of Greymouth, and 518 others; Mrs M. K. Shields (Lab., do behalf of $

Graeme Noel Waters, of Paraparaumu, and 148 others; Dr M. J. Cullen

(Lab., St Kilda), on behalf of Frederick Philip Leathley, of South Dunedin, and 189

others; and Mr T. A. de Cleene (Lab., Palmerston North), on behalf of Vivienne Magda Porzsolt, of Palmerston North, and 131 others. The Prime Minister, Mr Muldoon, tabled the annual reports of the Bank of New Zealand directors and the Government Stores Board. The Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr Templeton, tabled the annual reports of the Rural Bank, the 1 Fishing Licensing Authority, the Trade and Industry Department, the Development Finance Corporation, the Consumer Council, the Standards Council, the Customs Department, State Insurance, and the Earthquake and War Damage Commission. The Minister of TransMr Gair, presented the

reports of Air New Zealand, and the New Zealand Ports Authority. Members tabled notice of six motions. Ministers answered 17 questions. The Prohibition of Nuclear Vessels and Weapons Bill was introduced and referred to the disarmament and arms control select committee.

The House adjourned at 5.30 p.m. The Budget debate resumed when the House sat at 7.30 p.m., and the Minister of Health, Mr Malcolm, completed bis speech. He was followed by Mr R. O. Douglas (Labour, Manurewa), the Minister of Energy, Mr Birch, and the Social Credit leader, Mr Beetham.
