Noise booklet published
The Canterbury Rubber Workers’ Union has published a booklet for its members explaining how to deal with a noisy workplace. The booklet is a companion volume to a 1982 publication which dealt with the safe handling of chemicals in the industry. In an introduction to the noise booklet, the union’s secretary, Mr L. G. Morel, says that for the campaign against noise to be effective it is vital that all trade unions support it. Manufacturers of equipment should be required by law to reduce the noise level of the machinery they make.
An occupational health specialist, Dr W. I. Glass, says in the booklet’s foreword that noise at work is rapidly becoming one of the most urgent industrial health problems.
