Champion to play in Chch
The New Zealand solo accordion champion, Marie Efford, of Whangarei, will play two fund-raising concerts in Christchurch this week before leaving for the world championships in Austria.
Miss Efford, aged 16, will represent New Zealand in the Coupe Mondiale accordion championships in Linz from September 7 to 11. She will also perform in Los Angeles, Denver, Kansas City, Birmingham, Belgium, and Germany. A pupil at Whangarei Girls’ High School until May, Miss Efford has been learning the accordion for eight years. Last year she won the Allan William Jones Memorial Scholarship. After the Coupe Mondiale, Miss Efford plans, to return to New Zealand to continue her accordion studies. She will perform at the School of Music at Ham tomorrow, at 1.10 p.m., and at the Arts Centre on Friday, at 12.10 p.m.
