New use for garage approved by council
The Riccarton Borough Council has decided to let a Lincoln Road garage be used for storing and displaying manufactured joinery. Kent Joinery, which has a factory on land zoned Residential B at 253 Lincoln road, had sought the council’s consent to use the garage on an adjoining property, which it had bought in 1982.
In its decision, the council said that it opposed the entrenchment of nonconforming uses in residential zones, but agreed to grant consent to the applicant, subject to certain conditions. These included limiting the use of the garage to storage and display for three years, and that it must be kept tidy.
