Fish contest to help research
Half the funds raised by next year’s Rangitata salmon-fishing competition will go towards Rangitata River research. The organising group agreed at a recent meeting that a quarter of the profit raised by the competition would go to the South Canterbury Acclimatisation Society for research into improvements for the Rangitata River. A quarter will be held in trust to be given to the acclimatisation society for an approved research programme at a later date. The competition dates — February 24 to 26 — were confirmed by the group, which has decided to change its name to the GeraldineRangitata Salmon Association for Research and Recreation. Prize money guarantees in excess of $15,000 are being finalised.
