The Sting wins
The first workout meeting of the North Canterbury Owners, Trainers and Breeders’ Association for more than two months gave the open-class pacer, The Sting, a chance to further his preparation for early
season engagements at Rangiora on Sunday. Trevor Thompson’s son of Card Shark and Eden Queen set a leisurely pace before sprinting hard over the closing stages. His time for the 2600 m journey was a sedate 3min 36.45, with his closing sections of 800 (60s) and 400 (295) being quite respectable. My Star and Ansett were the best of his rivals. The promising trotter, Game Command (Game Pride-Cee Day), finished powerfully from the middle of the field to easily account for his rivals in the main heat for his gait, registering a slow 3min 34.8 s to beat Fidelis and Ballyhoo.
Paraded in robust condition by his trainer, lan Cameron, Game Command will derive improvement from the outing and is likely to line up at the New Zealand Metropolitan Trot-
ting Club’s meeting later this month. Other winners were Barton Nevele, Wibahe Fella, Enchanter, Megan’s Pride, Gary’s Chance, Rocket King and Paddington Bear.
