Bamford wins yacht title
Michael Bamford, of Christchurch, is now the national junior O.K. dinghy yachting champion of both New Zealand and Britain.
Aged 19, Bamford won the British junior title and was eighth over all in the open championship at Torbay. His New Zealand junior success was achieved at Auckland five months ago.
The British series was held as a prelude to the world O.K. dinghy contest,
which was also sailed off Torbay. The British open title was won by Glen Collings, of Australia, from Alistair McMichael (Britain) and Stig Westergaard (Denmark). Greg Wilcox, of Wellington, was the most prominent New Zealander in the open division, finishing fifth. Joe Pzrebski (Wellington) was sixth, the New Zealand champion, Leith Armit (Auckland), thirty-seventh, and Michael Bamford’s brother, Paul, eighty-second.
