Judo tourney results
The recent Canterbury invitation judo open provided a final workout for members of the New Zealand team which left on Friday for the Oceania tournament in Noumea.
Over 170 players from 20 clubs throughout the South Island attended.
Canterbury has seven representatives in the team — Graeme Spinks, (CAJ); Mike Smith, Phillip McSweeney (YMCA), John Moody, Kevin O’Connor, Michael Graeme and Louise Hastie (Cobberkwai). Mr John Bradley, of Canterbury, an Oceania referee, will accompany the team.
The New Caledonia trophy for player of the day went to Wilson Hann of the Canterbury University Club.
The junior team to go to Australia for the junior international tournament in Brisbane this month was announced at the end of the tournament. It is: Girls: M. Khan, M. Marcroft, D. Bently, M.
