Pilot survives
PA Auckland A Dargaville pilot has escaped injury after flying through 50,000-volt power lines. The pilot, Peter Beatty, said he was extremely lucky to survive the accident on Thursday, which tore off part of one tail of the twintail Air-Truk topdressing aircraft. The accident also cut
power to most of Hobson County for several hours. Mr Beatty was spraying a farm paddock near Tangiteroria, 20km north-west of Dargaville, when the accident happened about 7.40 a.m. He used the elevator in the other tail to keep the aircraft level and managed to fly about 2km back to the farm airstrip where he landed safely.
