Napier, New Plymouth (2 positions) and Invercargill. The appointees will be involved in developing local fisheries in consultation with other Ministry staff and the fishing Industry. The Invercargill position will specialise in shellfish. AU other positions cover general fisheries matters. Duties and responsibilities will be to—1. Monitor fisheries in the district. 2. Identify problems in fisheries and recommend corrective measures. 2. Evaluate or assist with biological research studies as necessary 6. Liaise it the fishing industry, other government bodies and the public 7. Assist the Directorate in developing national policies and objectives for fisheries management 8. Inform the Regional Fisheries Management Officer of trends and development in the district affecting Ministry policies and objectives The qualifications required are a science degree, preferably post graduate, with fisheries management experience being desirable. DIRECTOR OF PSYCHIATRY Vacancy No 16/12(A) This specialist appointment will be on a wholetime basis of 9/10ths, as may be desired. A long term locum appointment would also be considered. The Director of Psychiatry shall be responsible for ensuring the provision of psychiatric services for Southland Hospital and Invercargill. The Psychiatric Department is centred on a 36 bed purpose built unit which provides a base for a community care psychiatric service, with over 1000 patients under active care in the community. In addition to hospital duties there is a close liaison with the Education Service and with the voluntary societies (Crippled Children’s Society, IHC Society, Plunket Society, etc.) It is proposed that there will be an equal division of all hospital duties with the present Paediatrician, apart from areas of special interest.
