No E.E.C. licence for Feilding
PA Wellington Borthwick-CWS will not seek an E.E.C. licence for its Feilding works, the company’s general manager, Mr Dennis Waple, said yesterday. Mr Waple said the company’s Longburn works had total E.E.C. approval, but Feilding did not meet the requirements. The cost of bringing areas of the Feilding plant to E.E.C. requirements could not be justified at present. “Instead we will concentrate all the company’s
mutton kill there. We do not propose to slaughter lambs at Feilding. “Further, we will retain the beef works to meet standards set by the New Zealand Ministry of Agriculture and the United States Department of Agriculture.” Mr Waple said that this would enable Feilding to serve the major beef mdrlcfits. Work by Borthwick-CWS to conform with E.E.C. and other requirements at its other works will involve the company in expenditure of S7M.
