Opossums in chimney

Sir,—Your correspondent, J. R. Rolfe (July 11) fails to understand the thrust of my letter. The opossums were released under the glare of publicity by an officer of the Avian Welfare Project. This is contrary to the law. The A.W.P. has no clout or official standing within the ambit of statutory bodies engaged in various conservation work. That it was done with publicity suggests that the project is in ignorance of the law or that it values publicity more than its legal responsibilities. The correct body to deal with all problems associated with the opossums is the Forest Service.—Yours, etc., MAXWELL GILMORE. July 12, 1983.
