Warwickshire, last in the county cricket championship last year, beat Middlesex, the 1982 champion, in the latest round of matches. Middlesex remains at the top of the table, but its lead over Essex has been reduced to 11 points. Warwickshire holds third place. The leaders’ points, with the number of games played in parentheses, are:
