Cheviot bull sale slightly better
Hereford bulls sold for an average price of $llBB at the annual Cheviot bull sale which was slightly higher than last year’s figure of $1179.
The offering of 35 two-year-old bulls failed to achieve the buoyancy which was evident at the Culverden sale on Wednesday. The top Cheviot bulls sold for about $lOOO less than their counterparts at Culverden.
The top price was $2200 which was obtained four times compared with last year’s top price of $2BOO. Only five bulls were passed in.
P. D. H. Bush, Parnassus, averaged $1292 for 13 bulls
compared with last year’s average of $llBO. Mr Bush sold three bulls at $2200 and the others made from $BOO to $l4OO.
J. D. and D. A. Caldwell, Cheviot, sold 14 bulls at an average of $1207, a slight drop from last year’s figure of $1240. Their best sale was $2200, followed by another at $2OOO and the rest made from $BOO to $lBOO.
Three horned Herefords from Mendip Hills station, Parnassus, averaged $1066 ($933 last year) and had a top price of $l4OO.
