Sthland man wins rally
Inky Tulloch, of Mataura, won the North Otago Car Club’s invitation rally in the Herbert Forest on Saturday. Tulloch handled the slippery conditions well in his NEC
Escort RS to beat his fellow Southlander, Barry Robinson (lon-Aire Chevette 2.3), by just more than Imin in the 100 km rally. Tulloch won three of the four stages. Drivers had to contend with snow on the first stage and a pre-rally briefing by police
investigating the Oamaru kidnapping case added interest for the 64 crews — the largest number to contest a South Island event this season. Results:—
Tulloch, 1:13:17, 1; Robinson, 1:14:19, 2; Dean Bond (Balclutha, Mazda RX3), 1:16:23, 3; Andy Neill (Oamaru, Escort BDA Mk I), 1:16:52, 4; David Brown (Timaru, Datsun 140 J), 1:18:15, 5; Andrew Grundy (Middlemarch, Corolla 1300), 1:18:38, 6.
