Xavier wins again
The Xavier College first XV continued its winning run with a 7-4 victory over St Andrew’s College on Saturday.
Xavier lost its first three matches in the schools first XV championship, but has now recorded its third straight victory. Dean McLachlan kicked a penalty goal in the first half for Xavier, and John Adair scored a try in the second half after a St Andrew’s kick was charged down.
The St Andrew’s try was scored by, a flanker, Hamish Millar, following a scrum close to the line.
In the other first XV match played on Saturday, Burnside High School remained in contention for top honours by beating Shirley Boys’ High School, 7-0. Burnside was always going forward more than Shirley, and it controlled possession better behind the scrum.
