Women’s squash
Kathy Hargreaves (Burnside) confirmed her top seeding with a straight games victory over Raewyn Young (Linwood) in the final of the Urban Sports Apparel women’s open squash tournament at the Christchurch Club courts yesterday. Young, who was unseeded, did well to make the final and pushed the experienced Hargreaves hard in the first two games, but was allowed few chances in the third. The No. 2 seed, Jenny Oakley (St Andrew’s), who would have been in the same side of the draw as Young, had to withdraw from the tournament because of illness. The tournament, open only to women, attracted excellent entries with seven full draws of 16 players. Results:— Open.—Semi-finals: K. Hargreaves (Burnside) beat J.
