Vicar bearded or not?
The Rev. Don Nicholas, vicar of Cobham-Runanga, will wait until the seventyfifth anniversary celebrations of St Thomas the Martyr Church at Runanga at the week-end, before deciding whether to shave off his 10-year-oid beard. Mr Nicholas had offered his beard to Telethon at $2O a year for the last 10 years, but his congregation protested. According to a parishioner, Mrs Delma Nimmo, the figures last evening stood at $125 for the vicar to shave it off, and $94 for him to keep it on. Mr Nicholas said that he would try to raise more money at the Runanga celebrations; and it is likely that the Bishop of Nelson, the Rt Rev. Peter Sutton, will be asked to contribute.
