Wage claim
Sir,—The comments of the Minister of Social Welfare on the plight of the low paid worker, (“The Press,” June 13) vindicate the F.O.L. call for a $2O a week wage rise. This would give a real lift to the lower-paid worker, while not raising the higher-paid worker’s wages unrealistically. Percentage wage increases and tax cvti merely increase the gap between the haves and the hatfe-nots. However, to make the claim that
people are preferring the benefit to working, implies that work is available, which it is not.—Yours, etc JUDY M. WATERS. June 14, 1983.
