Student wins scholarship
The first New Zealand winner of the Japan Airlines scholarship for university students is a Waikato University student, Miss Shirley Hooper. Although the scholarship has been running for 10 years, this was the first year New Zealand students were eligible. The pilot scheme for the award was confined to Waikato students but will cover all New Zealand Universities in future.
