Sir,—lt is a shame that the Polish authorities have outlawed Solidarity, but in my opinion Lech Walesa’s threat to use violence to get it reinstated or legalised is doomed to failure. The Government holds too many cards, and the only ones to suffer will be those who think they can beat a strongarm police State with mere sticks and stones. Walesa and his cohorts are far too impatient. During the time they enjoyed legal status they should have put some effort into consolidating their position as honest brokers between the workers and the Government.
