Jellie park loan poll
Sir,—Poll requests by residents of the Waimairi County Council on this subject must be lodged by 4 p.m. on Wednesday, June 15. So that the majority view can be found county residents should use their privilege to call for a poll. Are we to burden ourselves with the cost of financing a loan for a quarter of a million dollars for the occupation of a water slide in Jellie Park? In the wake of national and local economic restraint such an expenditure would be irresponsible and likely to be a “millstone” around the necks of this and future generations. Rate costs are already as high as the economy should allow; the joyful exhilaration of youthful watersliders will soon sour on the “switch-back” of reality as they in turn mature to accept the responsibilities and escalating costs of their joy-ride. — Yours, etc.,
W. MARGARET DENNIS. June 13, 1983.
