Bid to buy heart machine fails
PA Auckland An Auckland couple who tried to raise $40,000 to buy a heart machine for Green Lane Hospital have given up hope of reaching the target. Mr Albert Gadsdon and his wife, Margaret, decided to raise the money as a gesture of appreciation after similar equipment saved Mr Gadsdon’s life last November. Mr Gadsdon said yester-
day that he had given the hospital about $22,000, the proceeds of a lottery. The couple had hoped to raise the balance by selling 20,000 lottery tickets at $2 each, but the Internal Affairs Department limited sales to 12,000 because the prize list was insufficient. Mr Gadsdon said that the hospital njight have to pay some of its own money into the fund.
