Good win by Canty
Canterbury was a convincing winner of the southern zone 13-years rugby league tournament at New Plymouth.
It convincingly beat West Coast (38-0) and Manawatu (44-0) in its section matches, and had a 17-8 victory over Taranaki in the final. Canterbury also beat Wellington, 40-10, for the Leighton-Lord Shield.
Eight Canterbury players were subsequently included in the tournament team. Justin Nixon was chosen as captain, and the others selected were Grant Gay, Mark Woodward, Danny Aupaau, Paul Abercrombie, Shane Gennet, Mark McKenzie and Jack Kupenga.
