Syringe charges to be investigated
Wellington reporter The practice of the North Canterbury and Palmerston North hospital boards of charging haemophiliacs for syringes and other equipment taken away from their hospitals will be investigated by the Health Department - . Assistance to haemophiliacs having to use syringes and butterfly clips outside hospitals was relatively new, said the Minister of Malcolm. Suggested procedures for
doing this had not been • issued by the department. , All hospital boards, including North Canterbury and Palmerston North, provided patients with treatment free while in hospital, and for a suitable period after discharge, he said. Charges were made by the two hospital boards for syringes and associated items when replacements were sought. , j Mr Malcolm said he had asked the department investigate to see if suitaße guidelines should be issued.
