NZPA-Reuter London The fastest century of yesterday’s English County Championship play came from Nottinghamshire’s New Zealand all-rounder, Richard Hadlee. The Kiwi whirlwind followed his four for 25 in Sussex’s first innings of 115 with 103 in only 147 minutes, hitting 11 fours and two sixes and helping his side to a first innings leader of 207.
Surrey’s Grahame Clinton, meanwhile celebrated his thirtieth birthday with the ninth century of his career against Gloucestershire at Bristol. He shared a second wicket stand of 191 with David Smith, who made 90, scoring 105 with 12 fours and a six in 213 minutes.
