Bishopscourt

Sir,—One of the points raised by the proposed Bishopspark development which concerns many Anglicans is the financing of the whole project. It is self-funding so, on present day costs, the purchasers will be paying almost double the building cost of a unit. The developers and agents will be taking their due profit, and the Church its share. We know Anglican Social Services has to pay one million to the Bishopric Trust to purchase the property. It has also to convert the house into a rest home, complying with the requisite regulations, costing between $200,000 and $400,000. It has then to run the home at about $170,000 per annum. “Life Care” costs must surely be used for subsidised nursing in the home and geriatric care in Churchill Hospice. There is no guarantee that reselling vacated units will be profitable. Bishopspark could be a burden that Bishopscourt would never be.— Yours, etc., GILLIAN BRIDGE. May 5, 1983.
