Diseases from animals

Sir,—l notice that you have reported twice in a week the Ministry of Agriculture’s display warning pupils of the diseases possible to be transmitted from animals. One would have thought that with all the chemicals, drugs, etc., so frequently advertised on TV there should be no risk at all. My father farmed all his life in England, and I cannot recall him ever warning our family of this possibility. Perhaps this was because all he ever contracted was a bout of ringworm, which quickly disappeared with an application of methylated spirits. My mother, on the other hand, warned us of all the diseases and illnesses which contact with humans could bring upon one. She also advised us that assaults on our hearts and minds by other humans, would probably leave scars for life. There is enough animal abuse in this country already.—Yours, etc., (Mrs) J. DYER. .
