Fire tenders stretched

Emergency fire tenders from the Central, Woolston, and Sumner stations were called to Curries Road, Hillsborough, yesterday afternoon to a possible chemical spillage. However, the solvent which was leaking from a 44-gallon drum was not toxic and was found to be paint.

The call coincided with an emergency at Christchurch Airport which fire tenders from the Central, Harewood, Sockburn, and St Albans stations attended. “We were a bit stretched for a while, but the situation at Curries Road was over very quickly, and we were not too badly off,” a fire spokesman said.
