Victory for Mystic Madam

In spite of winning her last two starts decisively, against similar fields, Mystic Madam started at generous odds and obliged her supporters with a one-length victory in the Ladies’ Bracelet, the feature race at the Christchurch Greyhound Racing Club’s oncourse totalisator meeting at Queen Elizabeth II Park last evening.

Mystic Madam drew the outside box, but the Kim’s Mint fawn bitch showed intelligent racing ability to weave her way out of the crowding situation at the first bend, to cross to the rail and pursue Arkarita, the New Zealand champion, down the back straight. Mystic Madam ranged up on the top bend and the pair were almost on level terms entering the home straight. After a great tussle, Mystic Madam asserted her superiority near the finish and Arkarita was hard pressed to hold second by a head from the rank outsider, Sleep Easy, which mounted a powerful finish.
