Shot fired in bar
PA Tauranga Tauranga detectives were last evening questioning residents of Maketu, in the eastern Bay of Plenty, after a shotgun incident in nearby Te Puke on Wednesday night. A man turned up at the Te Puke Hotel after the bar had closed and fired a shotgun when he was refused a drink, a Tauranga police
spokesman said yesterday. Ten or 15 people were in the bar at the time, he said.
The Rotorua armed offenders squad surrounded a house at Maketu early yesterday morning, but after being questioned the occupants were allowed to return home.
The police said last evening that they were still seeking the person responsible for the shooting.
