Coast man found dead
Westport reporter
A retired Tauranga Bay farmer was found dead on the pakahi in the Gillow’s dam area south-east of Westport yesterday morning. He was Raymond Arthur Winfield, aged 65. About 3 p.m. on Sunday Mr Winfield and a friend, Mr Allan Murphy, went for a short walk behind Mr Murphy’s house. After inspecting farmland in the area they separated. When Mr Winfield failed to return a search was launched.
At first light yesterday a helicopter and 50 policemen and members of the Buller search and rescue group combed the area behind Mr Murphy’s house. Mr Winfield was found about 9 a.m. about half a mile from the house.
