51 freeze complaints
PA Wellington The Trade and Industry Department received 51 complaints of price freeze breaches during the last week.
During the week to April 27, nine complaints relating to groceries were received, eight to fees for services, and five to restaurants and take-aways. During the same period 42 complaints were investigated and six were found to be justified. Exemptions under hardship provision were granted to 16 applicants during the week-long period. Four applications were declined. Among the 16 applications approved were: Audiophonic Industries, Ltd, Auckland, various increases on tapes and cassettes averaging 35 per cent. Central Otago Fruit Company, Roxburgh, increases in canned fruit ranging from 8c to 51c a dozen cans.
