Buoyant wool sale

PA Napier Competition was the strongest of the season at the Napier wool sale yesterday. Bidding was animated from all facets of the trade, said the official report. Compared with the Invercargill sale last week, the market for fleece, cots, second-shear, and first lambs, wool was up to 5 per cent dearer. Second-shear lambs’ wool was up 12.5 to 15 per cent, and clothing oddments were up to 10 per cent dearer. The Wool Board bid on only 1 per cent of the 31,000bale offering and did not buy any wool. ally of poorer, style and colour than earlier offerings, showing tenderness, some vegetable matter and yellowing. The catalogue was 18 per cent fleece, 16 per cent early-shorn, 27 per cent autumn second-shear, 29 per cent lambs, and 10 per cent oddments.

The adjusted weighted average sale was 288.40 c a kilogram. Based on this, a Government supplementary payment of li per cent will apply to air woo! sold at the sale and all wool sold privately from midnight on March 16 to midnight on March 17.
