Fighting comeback by India

NZPA-Reuter Port-of-Spain

India has earned a hard fought and deserved draw in the second cricket test of the five match series against the West Indies.

India scored 175 and seven for 469 and West Indies tallied 394. Mohinder Amarnath, of India, was the backbone of the team effort. Both he and the captain. Kapil Dev, ended the test with centuries.

The dogged Amarnath, the 32-year-old right hander from Delhi, kept the West Indian fast attack at bay for five and three quarter hours with a courageous 117 during which he was frequently battered and bruised with blows to his body and helmet.

The dynamic Dev, attacking with powerful strokes all round the wicket, put the result beyond doubt, adding 134 in less than two hours with the wicketkeeper, Syed Kirmani, 30, and finishing with an even undefeated 100.

Dev lashed three huge sixes off the spinners and 13 fours from the 95 deliveries he faced in just 142 minutes batting.
