Exercyclist may have set record
A Christchurch man who raised $530 for the Australian bushfire fund by riding an exercycle for 38 hours thinks he may have set a record. “I can’t find anything on an exercycle record in either the ‘Book of New Zealand Records,’ or the ‘Guinness Book of Records’,’’ said Mr Martin Keen. Mr Keen will write to the “Guinness Book” publishers in Britain to find out whether his effort is worthy of a mention. The Mayor of Christ-
church. Sir Hamish Hay, will be presented with a cheque for $530 from Mr Keen at 9.15 a.m. today. Mr Keen said he was delighted with the response to the appeal. “I was expecting only about $200,” he said. “I have so many people to thank that I don’t know where to start.” Mr Keen had intended to exercycle for 56 hours, but his legs “gave out” and 38 hours was the total. "It’s the last time I am ever going near an exercycle, that’s for sure,” he said.
