General forecast: Remaining areas of rain clearing in the west of the South Island and in Nelson, and fine weather becoming general. Over the rest of the South Island, unsettled weather, with scattered showers, but fine intervals increasing inland. Rain is expected to spread to most western and northern districts of the North Island but a clearance is expectd from Taranaki to Manawatu, spreading slowly north: colder showery weather about Cook Strait spreading up the east coast; southeasterly winds over the South Island and southern parts of the North Island spreading north, the winds strong in
