In the last five weeks Beks, a pupil at Xavier College, has been steadily reducing his personal best time in the 100 m breaststroke and last evening

his efforts reached a climax when he broke the New Zealand junior boys' 100 m breaststroke record at the Christchurch inter-secondary schools finals at the Queen Elizabeth II Park pool. Beks swam the 100 m in lmin 11.2 s which broke by o.ls the national record held jointly bv Mark . Kalaugher and Grant Forbes.
