Swimming record
Anthony Beks is a name little known outside swimming circles, but if his performances in the last month are an indication his name will be prominent in the next few years. In the last five weeks Beks, a pupil at Xavier College, has been steadily reducing his personal best time in the 100 m breaststroke and last evening
his efforts reached a climax when he broke the New Zealand junior boys' 100 m breaststroke record at the Christchurch inter-secondary schools finals at the Queen Elizabeth II Park pool. Beks swam the 100 m in lmin 11.2 s which broke by o.ls the national record held jointly bv Mark . Kalaugher and Grant Forbes.
