Jungle training for Territorials
About 100 Territorial Force soldiers will fly .to Singapore next week to take part in jungle-training exercises in nearby Malaysia. The month-long exercise, named Jalan Ulu 22 (Jungle Road 22), i£ designed to train Territorial soldiers in a jungle environment. The Territorials are drawn from Army units in the 2nd Task Force Region, which makes up the lower half of the North Island.
Twelve Regular Force armoured corps servicemen and 12 Special Air Service soldiers will also accompany the contingent. The armoured corps members will train with the Singapore Armed
Forces, while the S.A.S. team will conduct a selection course at the Ist Battalion, Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment, based in Singapore.
The Territorials will combine to form a rifle company and exercise with the battalion in the Kota Tinggi jungle training area in Johore Bahru, Malaysia. They will be commanded by Major R. L. Mills, of New Plymouth, who is a Territorial company commander.
The three groups will assemble for training at Linton Military Camp on Sunday before leaving Ohakea for Singapore on March 9.
