Ferry timetable changes concern
Concern has been expressed by some members of the Marlborough Harbour Board at the effect changes in the New Zealand Railways ferry timetable will have on South Island passengers. The 10 a.m. sailing from Picton has been cancelled with the withdrawal from service of the Aramoana. Mr G. S. Fuller said it seemed a bit unfair for South Island passengers while North Island passengers were not affected. He asked if the board, as an interested party,
had been consulted by the Railways Corporation. The general manager, Mr M. J. Goulden. said that he had had no direct contact with the corporation on the new timetable. He questioned whether the board, was in fact an interested party under the circumstances. The board chairman, Mr W. J. Horrey, said he understood that interested parties representing freight and passenger interests were taking the matter up with Mr D. L. Kidd, member of Parliament for Marlborough.
